Semester Two kicked off to a busy start for Unleash Space, with a multitude of activities running throughout the first week (Re-Orientation week) to promote Unleash Space and get the community excited about innovating, making stuff and getting inspired here.
Out on campus, an outside stall was run, drawing attention to passers-by with a spin wheel and prizes, as well as friendly Unleashers from our student team letting them know about Unleash Space. Inside Unleash Space itself, coffee and muffins were available for people to come in and chat, meet new people, get a feel for the space, and try out activities set up in the space this week, such as a VR station and a photobooth.
The environment was relaxed and open, and people had a lot of fun by signing up to our newsletter, spinning our wheel, and winning some awesome prizes. Inside Unleash Space, the VR station in particular was a huge hit, with some quirky moments and expressions from those experiencing virtual reality for the first time. The people who came in and the conversations had throughout the week were very positive and friendly – really showcasing the value of community and how just simply talking to people can inspire others. The Student Leads and Creative Technologists running these activities also felt this pleasure and sense of community from helping others and sharing stories about themselves, and the people and happenings of Unleash Space.
Overall, this has been a successful week of events, and a great way for people on campus to learn all about Unleash Space, get excited about innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as learn about how our spaces (Create and Maker Space and Innovation Hub) and upcoming events can help fuel that curiosity within them.
